Can someone tell me what type of autism my brother has?
I've always wondered what kind he has. I'll describe him as best as I can. He's a sixteen year old boy (one year older than me) and he likes music and cars. He can talk in full sentences but he usually isn't the one to start conversations. When he ask questions they are usually "yes or no" questions. He knows right from wrong. I can ask him questions or tell him things that I would ask or tell anyone else and he understands. If I swear or something he'll tell me it's not good to say or he'll nervously laugh. You can't tell he has autism unless you start talking to him.
Anyone know what type of autism he has? I've always been curious. I know for sure he has it (he was diagnosed when he was two) I just want to know what kind he has.
Thank you.
Answer:Sounds like either aspergers or high functioning autism. How was his language development when he was younger? If it was delayed or used in an unusual way then it would be high functioning autism but if it's always been normal it's probably aspergers syndrome. Since you said he was diagnosed when he was two I'd guess that it's high functioning autism since aspergers usually isn't noticed until four or five.
These are all just guesses though based on this one small blurb of information on him. If you really want to know for sure what he has and in detail you should talk to your parents about it.
Answer:People usually talk about degrees of severity of ASDs (Autism Spectrum Disorders), not types. Aspergers, for example, is an ASD which is milder than autism. Some psychologists would prefer not to make the distinction between Aspergers and Autism, and just call both of them ASD, and specify mild, moderate, or severe based on the patient.
Here's the wikipedia article on ASDs:

Hopefully that article will help your understanding.
Answer:Autism is a Spectrum disorder …. meaning the condition does not manifest itself the same way in any two people. Would be impossible for anyone to do much of a diagnosis from what you provide (tough enough with a series of tests), but your brother sounds like what would be classified as at least "highly functioning" and possibly even "Aspergers".
If so, he is lucky to have made as much progress as he has.
Love him for who he is, help him as you can, and pray for understanding world.
Answer:if he has is learning at a normal pace and is not very social he probably has aspergers autism like i have, or it could also be high functioning autism. if he learns slowly and it took him a long time to learn to do things like talk or read then he has a different kind of autism that i'm not sure the name of.
Answer:In practice, the diagnosis is made by a variety of professionals including psychiatrists, pediatricians, speech and language therapists and psychologists. While multidisciplinary approach to all cases is ideal, this is particularly important in complex cases.
Answer:Perhaps, Aspergers? I'm not entirely sure — maybe give us an excerpt of an entire conversation and I'll be able to make a better guess.
Answer:I agree with everyone else I have a cousin with Aspergers and it sure sounds alot like what he has.
