I've been recently diagnosed by my therapist with numerous mental disorders: severe depression, mild schizophrenia, compulsive lying, and hypersomnia. I know what all of these disorders are but what error in my brain could be causing this? I'm just curious about what part of my brain is causing these disorders and what else, besides the one I already know about, might be caused/effected.

Answer:Wow, that's quite a collection. I'm pleased that you have found a therapist that you feel able to trust, and to allow you to hear that kind of thing without feeling criticised or demeaned. To the best of my knowledge, no-one has yet discovered particular malformations of the brain that are responsible for the symptoms you outline.

The brain is a very plastic organ, and does respond to changing its way of working over time. I would be looking at doing some energy exercises to help support the therapy and modify the way some of the brain centres function, like Tai Chi or Aikido.

Answer:Here's the deal….scientists don't often know the origin or the "why" certain disorders happen.

I have multiple sclerosis…scientists and neurologists know how it basically works but they don't know what actual thing causes it, if it's genetic, etc.

Talk to your therapist about this. If they don't know, you may want a second opinion or see a neurologist.

Answer:ur just like every other human being, idk wutz wrong with that therapist!! he might have something in that category too or worse!! you seem fine to me when you ask this question… find a new therapist… first tell him why u categorized you in all those, and ask him, "did you do it to make me mad"?!! see wut he sais

Answer:well i believe all of us have some sorts of mental disorders,

perhaps ones we've never even heard about.

you could ask your therapist though, i'm sure

he would explain it better than any of us

Please! Tell me what kind of mental illness this child with a Truama will have now?

I know it's long but please read it! I need to know the answer…

This guys mom runs outside the house because her husband is lazy and drinks lots of alchohol.

His dad always picks him up late from the day care, inside the day care the child will look outside

at all the children going back home happy with their parents and he is left at the day care alone,

Sometimes he cries because he is sad.

One day he met a girl who was staying late in the day care with him. They became friends instantly and her house

was near the day care centre, so she decided that she will come spend some time with him when his dad would be late to pick him up. The boy's only friend is this girl but one she passed away as her uncle was sexually abusive towards her. he lost his best friend in young age.

When he is 7years-old he gives his dad a birthday card but his dad took the card and tore it up and threw it away asking him to go study first.

He would go and cry to his dog because he had nobody to sharew his feelings with.

Another incident that happened to him was when he was bullied by other students in school, he told his father that kids were bullying him

but his father never took action. He then went to the teacher and told her he was being bullied and she sorted the problem out.

after awhile, his life is happy, He got alot of friends who he played football and rode bicycles with them all. but one day His dad had financial problems paying for the house.

So they had to move to a new location, the new area had no kids around his age.

another incident strongly in his heart is, his dad told him if he get all A's in his exams he will buy him a video game,

but in the exam he got less mark from an A in one subject. He got so upset about what his dad might do to him that he fainted in the toilet.

During his years of 14 – 17 his friends would go see movies but his dad would not allow him to go.

His friends wore expensive and good looking clothes but his dad would not buy any for him. When he hit puberty and started growing facial hairs he didn't know how to shave so he had to look it up on YouTube.

His dad would not let him do any entertainment like going out with his friends, seeing a movie etc.

Studying was more important then having a relationship with other people in his life.

and also His dad forced him to go study a college in which he was not interested in.

A person that experienced this kind of lifestyle and now at 19 years-old what kind of mental illness would he have?

Please let me know as this question is very important…

Sure he is a Traumed child but would he have any illnesses now?

Answer:That can really only be answered by a psychiatrist. If the boy, now a young man shows signs of depression or strange behaviors I would attempt and assist him in seeking ot professional psychiatric help.

Do most people just not get any side effects? Is it like olanzopine or risperdone where it knocks you out pretty quick? or is it more like an SSRI?

I just took my first pill 5mg. The heart failure in elderly people (im only 28!) and the convulsions/seizures freaks me out a bit.

Answer:Ok, so I took abilify for a while there so i'll try to explain it's side effects as best I can. The first morning after taking it I started to vomit, and I really felt quite sick until about midday (I'd taken it the night before). This lasted about to or three days, however, I was on 10mg at first. Also, for the first few weeks on it, I got really vivid dreams. When I got up to 40mg I started getting blurry vision. These were the only side effects that I got, fortunately weight gain was not one of them Abilify is an upper so it is more like an SSRI. I definitely felt more energetic on it which was nice. You shouldn't really get any noticeable side effects on 5mg. -but if you go any higher side effects are definitely a possibility.

Unfortunately, abilify didn't work for me but thankfully olanzapine did- even if I did get weight gain.

Answer:Hi,

I got this off the manufacturer's details. The pdf link gives you a lot more information.

It's quite a list, as always.

======================================…

If you notice you are gaining weight, experience any difficulty in swallowing or allergic symptoms, please tell your doctor.

If you are an elderly patient suffering from dementia (loss of memory and other mental abilities), you or your carer/relative should tell your doctor if you have ever had a stroke or "mini" stroke.

Tell your doctor immediately if you are having any thoughts or feelings about hurting yourself. Suicidal thoughts and behaviours have been reported during aripiprazole treatment.

Tell your doctor immediately if you suffer from muscle stiffness or inflexibility with high fever, sweating, altered mental status, or very rapid or irregular heart beat.

Common side effects: uncontrollable twitching or jerking movements, headache, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach, constipation, increased production of saliva, lightheadedness, trouble sleeping, restlessness, feeling anxious, sleepiness, shaking and blurred vision.

Uncommon side effects: some people may feel dizzy, especially when getting up from a lying or sitting position, or may experience a fast heart rate.

Some people may feel depressed.

Answer:Elderly people with psychosis related to dementia (for example, an inability to perform daily activities as a result of increased memory loss), treated with antipsychotic medicines including ABILIFY, are at an increased risk of death compared to placebo. ABILIFY is not approved for the treatment of people with dementia-related psychosis (see Boxed WARNING).

Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts or behaviors in some children, teenagers, and young adults, especially within the first few months of treatment or when the dose is changed. Depression and other serious mental illnesses are themselves associated with an increase in the risk of suicide. Patients on antidepressants and their families or caregivers should watch for new or worsening depression symptoms, unusual changes in behavior, or thoughts of suicide. Such symptoms should be reported to the patient’s healthcare professional right away, especially if they are severe or occur suddenly. ABILIFY is not approved for use in pediatric patients with depression (see Boxed WARNING).

Contraindication: Patients should not use ABILIFY if they are allergic to aripiprazole or any of the ingredients in ABILIFY. Allergic reactions have ranged from rash, hives and itching to anaphylaxis, which may include difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.

Serious side effects may include:

•An increased risk of stroke and ministroke have been reported in clinical studies of elderly people with dementia-related psychosis

•Very high fever, rigid muscles, shaking, confusion, sweating, or increased heart rate and blood pressure. These may be signs of a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), a rare but serious side effect which could be fatal

•Abnormal or uncontrollable movements of face, tongue, or other parts of body. These may be signs of a serious condition called tardive dyskinesia (TD), which could become permanent

•If you have diabetes, or risk factors for diabetes (for example, obesity, family history of diabetes), or unexpected increases in thirst, urination, or hunger, your blood sugar should be monitored. Increases in blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia), in some cases serious and associated with coma or death, have been reported in patients taking ABILIFY and medicines like it

Lightheadedness or faintness caused by a sudden change in heart rate and blood pressure when rising quickly from a sitting or lying position (orthostatic hypotension) has been reported with ABILIFY.

Decreases in white blood cells (infection fighting cells) have been reported in some patients taking antipsychotic agents, including ABILIFY. Patients with a history of a significant decrease in white blood cell (WBC) count or who have experienced a low WBC count due to drug therapy should have their blood tested and monitored during the first few months of therapy.

ABILIFY and medicines like it can affect your judgment, thinking, or motor skills. You should not drive or operate hazardous machinery until you know how ABILIFY affects you.

Medicines like ABILIFY can impact your body’s ability to reduce body temperature; you should avoid overheating and dehydration.

ABILIFY and medicines like it have been associated with swallowing problems (dysphagia). If you had or have swallowing problems, you should tell your healthcare professional.

Tell your healthcare professional if you have a history of or are at risk for seizures, or are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, and about all prescription and non-prescription medicines you are taking or plan to take, since there are some risks for drug interactions.

While taking ABILIFY, avoid:

•Drinking alcohol

•Breast-feeding an infant

Most common side effects (≥10%) from all clinical trials involving adults or pediatric patients include:

•ADULTS: Nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, an inner sense of restlessness or need to move (akathisia), anxiety, insomnia, and restlessness

•PEDIATRIC PATIENTS (6 to 17 years): Sleepiness, headache, vomiting, extrapyramidal disorder (for example, uncontrolled movement disorders or muscle disturbances such as restlessness, tremors and muscle stiffness), tiredness, increased appetite, insomnia, nausea, stuffy nose/sore throat, and increased weight

It is important to contact your healthcare professional if you experience prolonged, abnormal muscle spasm or contraction which may be signs of a condition called dystonia.

Answer:http://bipolar.about.com/cs/sfx/a/sfx_ab…

http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/abili…

The above websites will be helpful in educating you on the side effects of Abilify. Remember just because a side effect is listed it does not mean that you will experience it. It is on an individual basis.

Theres a guy i know. He's not at all my type. He used to love me obsessively (might still be) but i didnt see this untill it was too late. We never got into a romantic relationship. I said something in a situation that had a lot of misunderstandings. It probably broke his heart. He threatned me. After that, to make it worse i totaly erased him from my life. Now i have no contact what so ever with him.

I was feeling so happy that i did this as he had no right to threaten me if he really cared for me. But now i'm wishing he still cared for me. I know i'm blinded to not see the real bad side to him. My friends say that i he doesnt deserve me as he has a bad temper and can be very violent. But how can i forget the way he cared for me? The thing is i dont socialize much with guys. I dont know whether this has anything to do with me falling for a loser who clearly is not my type. I'm successful and he is just the opposite. Only thing he has to offer me is the fact that he obsessively loved me? Which i am blinded by at the moment. But as i said, he is violent when angered.

After cutting contact with him i am wanting him to still want me and I keep seeing in my mind the times he cared for me.

Pls advice me on how to forget him. I'm feeling so down.

Answer:Keep busy and meet other people. Hang out with mates, put yourself into your hobbies etc.

Just keep your mind from having time to think!

This girl and I have been friends for a long time. We've both been interested in each other at some point (we both know it too), but as things stand the last time I had asked her out she told me she was too busy to date. I thought we were gonna be just friends forever up until her grandma died and this girl, who normally doesn't even touch guys, started hugging me tight and crying for 2 hours. After calming down she started twining fingers with me, telling me how glad she was I was there for her (and she tells her family all about me), and she ended up sleeping cuddled up next to me on a futon (the first time she's ever slept next to a guy).

For a very shy girl… this was a huge display of emotion. She was embarrassed for a while, but we're back to both hanging out as often as before (2-3 times a week while both working full time). It's been a month since then, and I asked her one evening after getting dinner together (and talking together for 2 hours) how she was holding up since that one night. She told me she wasn't doing well at all. She'd gotten blackout drunk at a party and gone home with a random guy… but once she got there she just cried and nothing happened (they had a heart to heart she says). She's never been the kind of girl to do go off with random guys, ever. She then said it was her grandma's birthday this weekend and it might be very rough. I hugged her and told her she could always talk to me.

I've tried a couple times to hang out with her this week though after hearing about that. I asked her to grab dinner with me once and she was busy doing a radio show (which I had forgotten about, but we'd had dinner together before it a couple times in t he past), and I asked her if she wanted to go to a movie friday and she told me she was doing something with some mutual friends. I know she's busy the next day as well, but I'll run into her at a party later saturday evening I'm sure.

I'm probably overreacting at this point, but should I take all her excuses as a hint to just leave her alone? Or do you think these are legitimate reasons and she is just busy? She was the one who called me up to get food last time, and I've been really worried about her since she told me she wasn't doing well and went home with that guy, but if she doesn't want me to help obviously I'll give her space.

Answer:She sounds as if she is just trying to get through a hard time by having people there for her. I say leave her alone and let her come to you. Be a friend and leave it at that. With her emotions being what they are you don't want to be someone who she attaches because of hard times and leaves when she finds the one. Especially since we both know you are "the one" just leave her be for the time being.

hey i'm 14 years old and i say i'm only joking all the time and i waste my time by thinking of something to say then i say i'm only joking. I also have signs of an anxiety disorder but my parents won't listen. I also go on about the same thing loads. What is wrong with me?

Answer:I think you "waste" time thinking about what to say because you want to make sure that people want to hear whatever comes out of your mouth. Then you would tell people that you were only joking and so you can deceive both yourself and others into thinking that you weren't serious and hadn't thought over what you were saying. It would be very dissapointing to spend a lot of time on trying to come up with something good to say and then to see people unimpressed by you efforts.

I'm just guessing, sorry if I was wrong.

I'm fourteen too.

Answer:Nothing is wrong with you. Not knowing what to say can happen to adults too and as they say "You engage your speech..before engaging your brain".

If you feel the need to talk to someone, consider a crisis hot-line (you don't have to be in a total crisis and it is anonymous) and talk to them. That's what they are there for to listen AND if you want give you suggestions.

Answer:You are looking for attention. Chances are either your parents are busy or someone else in your life doesn't pay enough attention to you. Thus, you act out like this to get the attention you crave.

Answer:haha you just get nervous and dont want things to get akward so you say "im only joking" and as for anxiety issues maybe its just school is coming and your nervous.

Answer:Nothing. Its puberty.

Answer:Your parents dropped you when you were younger. Sorry..

Answer:dunno just a phase

Im 14 y/o and for last 6 months or so I've been pissed off at everyone and everything around me.

It feels like there's so much pressure for everything I do, It's like I've got to do everything perfect.

And I crack it at things I usually wouldn't care about.

Like today in Science class, I got moved for something I didn't even do and cracked it at the teacher, when usually I would've shrugged and say 'Sh*t happens'.

I mean, I live a pretty good life. Good family, good friends but I can't figure out why I've been so pissed off.

It feels like it's me against the world

Answer:Teen years are a rough time on your emotions. That's good that you recognize it. As long as you know that you are sometimes wrong, I think you will grow out of it. Just don't let it become who you are. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders.

Answer:Have you tried anger management skills or enrolling into an anger management class? A class will help you deal with your anger in a more positive manner. I have attached some websites on anger management techniques that I hope you will find helpful.

Answer:Is there something else troubling you? Perhaps coursework or something? I have exactly the same feeling and it's caused by anxiety from more problems around me than I can count

Answer:There was a time, billions of years ago when there was no death, just (poorly) self replicating molecules, all derived from a common ancestor, according to the genetic evidence. It was more than 2 billion years later that sex, (reproduction via meiosis) and death began. Then primitive nervous systems, later evolving into simple brains, with a sensorium, to detect dangers, and fear came into being. Overlaid on that basic fish brain is the amphibian brain, then the reptilian brain, then the animal brain, then the primate brain, and finally the massive cortex which enables full self consciousness in the human brain. Situations involving conflict, or a perceived threat often result in a response of anger, and/or fear. In times (largely) gone past, an immediate reaction to such situations was a survival trait, which was handled by the reptilian part of the brain. Keeping the above in mind, view http://ezinearticles.com/?Releasing-Your… Other options: Take a couple of deep breaths; fill the lower part of your lungs first, THEN the chest. If you can't deal with it by using one of the techniques, such as counting backwards from 20, to 1, (and prevent you from allowing yourself to become angry, in the first place) it is important to express that anger appropriately, at the time, and to the person who caused it, if possible, or immediately afterwards. If not, perhaps by walking away later, and bellowing your rage and/or frustration. In some situations, such as work, or school, it might be better to cover your mouth with a cupped hand, bandanna/handkerchief, or use the crook of your elbow, to muffle the sound. Some people find that it helps to journal those thoughts, and emotions soon afterwards. Anger, which is repressed, rather than healthily expressed, tends to fester, and later may cause explosive fits of rage, or depression. Let yourself feel the burning energy of that anger, and visualise it, as vividly as possible, as a hot flame cleansing you. It can help to have someone you can talk to. For more physically inclined people, a punching bag, or hitting your pillow, can be an effective release mechanism: visualise, as vividly as you can, that you are striking back at the cause of that anger.

"But next time, when you get mad, just remember this quote: 'Those who anger you, conquer you.' It's basically saying that when you give someone the power to make you mad, or let it get to you, it's like they're controlling you. When I realized that, it made me mad, so I try to control my anger and not let people see it. You can still control your anger without being walked all over. You just have to draw a line." Try saying to yourself, in your mind: "I am fire! I am ice!". Repeat for as long as it takes for you to calm down sufficiently. Practice a relaxation method, daily, and when needed, such as: (free) http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-… or http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/mindbody… or http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate or Yoga Nidra, (no flexibility required) at http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_1… Qi Gong, Tai Chi, or regular yoga suits others better. Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. It is free via the searchbar at www.mercola.com "EFT" & "EFT therapists" or www.tapping.com Professional is best. – There is a version for use in public places, (you could claim to have a headache, as you employ the acupressure massage/tapping your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: "Even though I sometimes make myself angry, I deeply and completely accept myself." These will enable you to emotionally centre yourself, when practiced regularly, and can also help you become a calmer, more self controlled person, who is less influenced by the behaviour of others.

how do i know when to stand up for myself and when to just ignore the person and hold my tounge?

Answer:It's not easy. It's all about controlling your emotions, especially anger. I had to learn how to stand up for myself, and it took ages for me to control my anger.

Like whenever my parents yell at me or something, instead of yelling back and releasing anger, I pretend I'm calm and i speak calmly, nonagressively. Then later, when they're gone and Im alone, I go to a private place and take it out on an invisible foe, or I just cry and listen to music. It may sound ridiculous, but kicking/punching at a pretend enemy is better than fighting a real enemy (i.e. my parents) because that will only make things worse. Believe me, before I controlled my anger, i got into even more trouble because i yelled back. Now I know how to face tough people, especially people who drive me to the point of extreme rage and anger.

It's still hard though, and it takes all i have to control my anger. That one emotion is one of the hardest emotions to control, mainly because when you get ticked off, your anger flares up like a match and you just wanna give that person what they deserve.

But whenever a person is bothering you, the first thing you should do is ignore them. If that doesn't work, then whatever you do, do NOT show your anger. That will only enrage them or it will satisfy them to know that you're angry. Just speak to them in a calm voice, and give them the impression that "im cool, you're just a fly that's trying to hurt a lion". Don't yell back at them or shove them, that will show that you are angry and they will get worse. But if things get really serious, like if they start to physically hurt you, then by all means, fight back. Defend yourself, but don't go to the point where anger consumes you and you're over the limit.

Answer:Well is is something you have to asses, based on how you and they are acting. If you feel if someone is being rude and disrespecting you, then it is appropriate for you to defend yourself. Conversely if someone is saying something that may be harsh, yet fair you should hold your tongue. They are simply stating a point or trying to work something out. Either way they are not doing anything unacceptable and are simply pointing out something.

Take the view of a bystander and analyse the situation. Imagine you and he were random people you didn't know. Then analyse if the person should hold his tongue or not. By taking this non biased view you will have a good idea of whether or not to ignore the person or say something.

Just keep things into perspective. Don;t go overboard when someone is being rude. They may be doing it unintentionally. By telling them what they are doing, they may easily apologise and things will be resolved. However if someone is persistently being rude (which a lot of people are) then it would be negligent for you to allow for this person to continue acting this way. You must stand up for yourself and make them now what they are doing and how it is making you feel.

Ultimately it is in your hands, but remember to try to resolve the situation and only take dramatic measures in extreme situations.

Answer:that's part of your personality, so it pends if it's a part of your personality then it'll be difficult to hold your tongue.

Don't get in trouble if it's not needed, so stand up for yourself if what the other person is saying really hurts you, or if he insults you in public.
